One-click Installation and Upgrades of Tekkit, Craftbukkit, Feed The Beast (FTB), and others
Virtual Gladiators has pioneered the "one-click" installation and upgrades of the most popular Minecraft MOD packs through a custom written "MOD Installer"© script for Multicraft.
NOTE: Even though the Virtual Gladiators One-Click MOD Installer© script creates a backup of your existing files, it is always recommended to use the FTP client to download and create your own backup before changing MOD packs or versions. The MOD Installer© is thoroughly tested before releasing updates to the public. However, Virtual Gladiators is not responsible for any loss or world corruption that may occur while using the MOD Installer©.
WARNING: The Virtual Gladiators MOD Installer© utilizes a file named MCMOD_CONTROLFILE in the root of your Minecraft server files. Do not alter or delete MCMOD_CONTROLFILE, otherwise the MOD Installer© one-click upgrade feature will not work correctly and you will be forced to manually upgrade your selected MOD Pack.
ANOTHER WARNING: The Virtual Gladiators MOD Installer© one-click upgrade will not automatically upgrade your existing BukGet plugins. Just because the plugins still appear in your /plugins directory does not mean that they actually loaded successfully! This is especially important if you are running a community server with an anti-grief or other anti-cheat plugins, as the BukGet plugins must be manually verified for compatibility once you've changed the MOD Pack version. You will be able to tell which plugins loaded successfully by checking the console screen when restarting your server after a MOD Pack installation/upgrade.
LAST WARNING: The Virtual Gladiators MOD Installer© one-click upgrade only works with the same MOD pack, which prevents world corruption and MOD incompatibilities. Unless the authors of the MOD Pack say it's possible, it is not advised to attempt to migrate a world from one MOD Pack to a completely different MOD pack.
Using the Mod Installer© one-click installation:
When your Virtual Gladiators Multicraft server is first created, it is deployed with the current version of Vanilla Minecraft (default). From this state it is possible to change to most of the available MOD Packs while keeping your Minecraft world intact and corruption free. Some of the older MOD packs that have not been updated by the authors may not work with a newer World, however.
To change MOD Packs, simply login to your Virtual Gladiator Multicraft control, click on the name of your server, select the MOD Pack from the "Server Jar" drop-down list, click the "Save" button at the bottom, and then restart the server with the button at the top:
Don't forget to click on the "Save" button at the bottom of the page:
Once you've restarted the server, the Mod Installer© will perform the following actions:
- Create a full backup .zip file of everything in your home directory
This backup will be named using the current date & time, as well name of the current MOD Pack installed, or "Vanilla" for the default Minecraft server.
"2013-05-16_21.21_Vanilla_1.5.2.zip", for example.- Delete all previous MOD Pack related files
Common files & durectories, such as plugins, server.properties, ops.txt, white-list,txt, banned-ips.txt, banned-players.txt, etc. will not be deleted- Install the selected MOD Pack files into your home directory
The MOD Pack will include the appropriate Minecraft server version for that MOD- (Possibly) Restore your world directories
If you were previously using "default" (latest Vanilla Minecraft) or a previous version of the same MOD Pack, Mod Installer© will retain your previous world directory, as it should be compatible with the MOD Pack you've selected. When will Mod Installer© retain your existing world during a MOD Pack change/upgrade?
The only time Mod Installer© will retain your existing world is if you are currently using Vanilla (default) and are switching to any of the other MOD Packs, or if you are switching from a specific MOD Pack to a newer version of the exact same MOD Pack.
Here are a couple of example scenarios to better explain the logic:
- Scenario 1: You have been using the "default" Server Jar (currently Minecraft server v1.5.2) and decide to change it to "Paintball v1.5.1" & restart the server.
Action: Mod Installer© will backup & reuse your existing world directory and all files within.
Logic: The Vanilla world should work fine, even though Paintball is a minor version behind.- Scenario 2: You have been using the MOD Pack "Craftbukkit v1.5.1 BETA r0.2" and want to upgrade to "Craftbukkit v1.5.2 BETA r0.1"
Action: Mod Installer© will backup & reuse your existing world directory and all files within.
Logic: Since you are going from Craftbukkit to a slightly newer version of Craftbukkit, your world will work without any issues.- Scenario 3: You have been using the MOD Pack "Craftbukkit v1.5.1 BETA r0.2" and want to switch to "Tekkit v1.0.6 (MC v1.5.1)"
Action: Mod Installer© will backup but NOT reuse your existing world. A new world will be generated when Tekkit is deployed.
Logic: Since you are going from Craftbukkit to a completely different MOD Pack with different plugins, there is no guarantee that your world will work correctly or at all.- Scenario 4: You have been using the MOD Pack "Paintball v1.5.1" and decide to switch back to "default" or any of the other Vanilla Minecraft server versions.
Action: Mod Installer© will backup but NOT reuse your existing world. A new world will be generated when the server is restarted.
Logic: Since you are going from a custom MOD Pack, Paintball, to a vanilla Minecraft server, there is no guarantee that your world will work correctly or at all.
